Something Wiccan This Way Comes -- Interview Part IV Wicca, Witchcraft LONNIE: We’ve learned this week that Wicca is a major danger in our society, and that it is especially bad with our younger generations. The Harry Potter books have revived a huge following of the ancient practice of Wicca, talk to us today, Steve, about what that is and what the dangers are for us and our family’s and friends. STEVE: That’s right, we’ve been talking about Harry Potter, and I don’t believe that every kid who reads these is going to up and become a major Witchcraft follower, but I see it as part of a trend. Kids are reading books about a young Sorcerer, who has supernatural power, who can cast spells, who’s cool and who’s their age. LONNIE: There’s always been a draw to this… You go way back in history and civilization, with sorcery and spell casting and witches and so forth. You can go back to the book of Daniel and you find that they are prevalent in the great Babylonian empire. STEVE: Yeah, and really the appeal goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. The same voice that told Eve, that I can offer you something better. Don’t submit to the creator, be a creator yourself, and that’s the lure of the craft, Lonnie. And you mentioned Daniel 2… LONNIE: the great prophecies of the different kingdoms. STEVE: Right! Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and he saw this big metal man, and then he woke up, and he forgot his dream. So he gathered his cabinet around him, and who were they? They were sorcerers and soothsayers, astrologers; these were all the occult practitioners of that day. LONNIE: They were the brains-trust of the ancient world. STEVE: That’s right, Nebuchadnezzar looked to them and asked them to comprehend his dream, and they tried for the life of them, but they couldn’t. Their claim to that sort of spiritual knowledge was false. STEVE: That’s right. He was a captive from Jerusalem, brought to Babylon, and he was being groomed to serve the king, he was one of the wise men, Daniel, so he brought him in and…Well prior to that, Nebuchadnezzar thought that all of his wise men were Charlatans, and so he sent out a death decree to kill them all, and Daniel was one of the wise men, so the executioners knocked on Daniels door, but he said, wait a minute, just give me a little more time. So, that night Daniel got down on his knees and prayed a simple prayer to the God of heaven, and said, father, please help me to know Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, or what it means, or I’m dead. And in Daniel 2:19, it says that the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. The next day, Daniel was to back in front of Nebuchadnezzar and he said, I’ve got the answer. It didn’t come from me, it came from the great God up above in heaven, who in His mercy, revealed to me the meaning of the dream. LONNIE: Which is a consistent theme than, through the Bible, whether it’s in Genesis or Daniel. STEVE: The word occult actually means hidden knowledge. And that is what Wicca Witchcraft claims to have, hidden knowledge that other regular people like us don’t know. Even in the Harry Potter books, the world is divided between the wizards and the witches, who have the secret knowledge, versus all of the Muggles of the world, who are the non-magical people who just don’t have insights to these supernatural things. LONNIE: You know, God must know some things that we just don’t know. Parents, even though they are thought to be old fogies by their kids, as parents train their kids, sometimes they just have to take authority and say no to certain issues. And God must know something about this great subterfuge going on there, and He says in Deuteronomy 9, don’t learn Witchcraft. Talk about that a little bit. STEVE: That’s right. He forbids us to learn about these occult practices, because He knows that when people learn about them, they present themselves as a very friendly series of practices which will give them spiritual enlightenment, which will give them fulfillment and teach them how to tap into the forces of nature, but it’s all a delusion, it’s all just a grand delusion. It reminds me of a verse in 2 Thessalonians 2, that talks about strong delusion, and that is what Wicca Witchcraft is. It’s a strong delusion, that little tiny human beings down here that are but dust; that we can convince ourselves to think that we are really our own Gods, that we can really run our own lives. That we can we can change reality for our own purposes, and if you just look at the world around us, this world is falling apart, and yet it’s really rooted in Satan telling Adam and Eve that you can become God. So, we’ve been trying to do that for thousands of years and we can’t do it, which means that it’s time to turn to the God of heaven, He can be the only real God. LONNIE: But, you contend that…Well it’s like the baby that follows his mother around. She heats up the stove, and tells the baby not to touch it, and reaches up that little hand, and sometimes mommy has to spank that hand, you don’t touch, learn of me. STEVE: Our natural human, fallen nature is curious of that kind of stuff, and even Eve when she wasn’t a sinner, was curious about the tree. And God says, don’t eat from that tree, don’t learn about Witchcraft, stay away from these things because they are dangerous, because you’ll open yourselves up to real supernatural forces of Satan that you cannot combat on your own strength and you will be deceived. LONNIE: And also you’re book explains that there is something better coming and it’s not Wicca. STEVE: The very next verse after it talks about Wicca, it says that the Lord your God will raise up a prophet, and then it said, he shall you hear. And when you go to the New Testament in Acts 3, Peter quoted that very text, that was written by Moses earlier, and he applied it to Jesus-Christ. LONNIE: Jesus was the prophet. STEVE: Lonnie, I think that the reason so many people are drawn to Witchcraft is because, it says to get back to nature. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, we do need to get back to nature, but Wicca is not the alternative to the one and only God. The fact is that what we need can only be found in Jesus-Christ. I grew up in the Hollywood hills, not to far from here, and as a teenager I was lost. I was lost into drugs and so on, but at twenty, I read the Bible and I’m Jewish, and I especially read about Jesus suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, and that’s what did it for me. And I realized then and there, that He was my Messiah, He was my savior, and He was offering me something that the world couldn’t offer, and when I finally made that choice to get off of my high horse and from thinking that I was God, I got down on my knees and said Lord, Jesus, come into my heart, come into my life, and He did. I experienced a fulfillment and a spiritual power. LONNIE: Talk about these sources of power that are available to us. LONNIE: One power is good the other not so good. One is safe, one’s not so safe. STEVE: There’s a God and there’s a Devil. In Witchcraft, they don’t believe in a Devil, they think that there’s just power and if you use the power for good, you’re a good witch, if you use it for bad you’re a bad witch. But they don’t realize that there’s the power of God and the Devil, and that God wants us to have the power of the Holy Spirit. |
